The goal of this section is to supply images and accurate data for plants of the Greater Chihuahuan Desert Region (which includes not only the desert itself, but also the highlands surrounded by the desert and those peripheral to the desert). As in any undertaking of this magnitude, this is a work in progress. Treating all of the plants within the region is beyond our capacity, but we will try to address some of those typical of the Chihuahuan Desert as well as some that are notable for their beauty and some that are threatened or endangered. Plants with data have active links, whereas those not yet characterized lack links. Currently, many of the target plants of the region are not represented even by name; these will be added as time progresses.
Because of limitations of resources, as well as the numerous common names applied to single plants, listing is by scientific name. If you are unfamiliar with our plant pages, please look first at the Plant List Introduction.
You also may search by scientific name, common name, or attributes such as "shrub" or "tree". Searching may be slow for those on a modem.
