ExhibitsA Virtual Exhibit--Mexican Poppies and the Franklin MountainsEvery so often, following better than average winter precipitation, the eastern side of the Franklin Mountains bursts forth with a magnificent display of golden poppies. Originally named Eschscholtzia mexicana, they now are considered to be a subspecies of the California Poppy. Regardless of the name, a good year is in the memory forever. This virtual tour looks at the poppies in the exceptional spring of 2003. The soft golden glow lent distant mountain slopes gives little advance warning of the visual impact of thousands of Mexican Poppies seen up close. Image by A.H. Harris, 10 March 2003.
