Family: Acanthaceae (Acanthus Family)
Geographic Range: Edwards Plateau of southwestern Texas, and Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on rocky stream banks and outwash plains.
Plant Form: Deciduous shrub, 5' x 5'.
Remarks: Irregularly branching shrub with red to orange tube-shaped flowers in summer and fall. Excellent hummingbird plant. Low water, full sun for best flowers but also
light partial shade, hardy to 5° F. Tolerates a range of soils but prefers good drainage. Prune severely every few years to renew.
