• Scientific Name: Koeberlinia spinosa (kee-bur-LIN-ee-uh spy-NO-suh)
• Family: Koeberliniaceae (Althorn Family)
• Geographic Range: Lower Rio Grande through Trans-Pecos Texas to southeastern Arizona, south into northern Mexico.
• Plant Form: Shrub up to 10' or rarely higher.
• Remarks: Spiny shrub, usually leafless. Photosynthesis primarily by green stems.
