Order Pholidota—Pangolins

rule

The pangolins consist of a small group (eight species) of African and Asian anteaters. Large, overlapping epidermal scales give them a unique look. Like other anteaters, they lack teeth but have an extraordinarily long tongue (even for anteaters). Heavy claws allow access to ant and termite mounds. Photographs are available at the Animal Diversity Web.
