Introduction: The Landscape, the Animals, the Plants

rule

The character of a desert is best revealed by the organisms that live in it and by the landforms shaped by its climate and geology. This section of the Chihuahuan Desert Pages is devoted to the organisms that inhabit this desert and to the landscapes within which these organisms live.

Emphasis has been on the amphibians, reptiles, and mammals, with only minor attention to birds. Plant data are primarily of plants present or anticipated in the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens. For the time being, the invertebrates are completely ignored. The landscape treatment is quite rudimentary at present, though hopefully sufficient to give the inhabitants of wetter climes some feel for the look of the desert landscape.
