A number of species of "grizzly bear" had been named from North America. Eventually they were collected into a single species, Ursus horribilis, and later lumped with the Brown Bear of Eurasia as Ursus arctos. As currently understood, the species includes the Grizzly, the Big Brown Bears, and the Kodiak Bear of Alaska.
